By Dr. James G. Laws

Many EKG books expect a certain level of knowledge in the reader. This expectation appears to be too high when applied to younger medical students and recently graduated physicians. It is these two groups for whom this book is written.

Repetition is an extremely fine teacher, and this principle is used throughout KISS My Royal EKG. As a student, I responded best to teachers who could simplify the complex problems. It is my opinion that keeping things as simple as possible when approaching a sick patient has led me to one of the guiding principles in my forty years of practice. That is the KISS principle, an acronym first noted in 1960 by the U.S. Navy as a design principle. KISS stands for Keep It Simple, Stupid, meaning most systems work best if they are kept simple rather than made complicated. This philosophy has been utilized throughout this book so that younger students and physicians are not led astray by the small ramifications that can lead to esoteric diagnoses.

Repetition and KISS, and you will know your EKGs.
