Edited by Christine E. Buchholz Buck & John A. Buchholz

In September, 1910, with shipping tags tied to their clothing, John and Laurence Buchholz—six and eight—were put aboard a Lehigh Valley passenger train, by their father, in Geneva, New York, for the first leg of their 360-mile journey to a rural Ohio orphanage. This account of their childhood at the Ebenezer Orphan Home in Flat Rock, Ohio, was drawn from conversations recorded during their later years.
