Living in the Ohio Governor’s Residence is like stepping back in time to a lifestyle enjoyed by its original owner.The Residence was designed in 1925 with entertaining in mind. Malcolm Jeffrey hired architect Robert Gilmore Hanford and chose the popular Jacobean Revival style for his home. His sister, Florence Jeffrey Carlile, purchased the home after his death. Her heirs donated the house to the state of Ohio for use as the Executive Residence in 1955. Eight Governors have lived here since the O’Neills opened the doors to guests. The Jeffrey and Carlile families hosted costume parties, Sunday musicales, large holiday parties, wedding receptions, small family gatherings and dinners with friends and neighbors. Governors have loved entertaining in this home, too. This historical cookbook gives you a peek into the life and times of each of the First Families who have lived here.
